hi fi killers (the)

they're french.
they play rock and roll.
they changed their name.
Hi Fi Klub:

supercult: You'll be recording your next album soon, what can we expect from it?

r
égis laugier: Wahou, a lot of new things. First, we got a new guitarist, Spag.
Then, talking about the album, we gonna record in France, as a trio, the basic tracks in a few weeks. After that, we'll let some of our friends like Portuguese Paulo Furtado (aka the
Legendary Tiger Man and the leader of Wraygunn), Eddy Joe (from a NY band called Lone Vein) and maybe Robert Aaron (you know, the NY guy who played with Bowie, Blondie,
Chic, Jagger, blah blah blah) do some additional things and arrange everything with us. I got some other names and contacts and other people will also do some stuffs on the record
but I can not talk about them right now. We'd like to release our album this year, well late this year. I really enjoy what Josh Homme did with "The desert sessions" albums and or what Mike Watt did with his first solo album called "Ball-Hog or Tugboat?" Basic songs written by a
band (some few original members: one or two guys) with his own sounds that are developed and arranged by other guys with the band. On the basis of this basic idea of "exchange", we changed our band's name. We are Hi-Fi Klub now. You're the very first to publish that news dear Annie.

sc: Do you think being from France has a positive or negative affect on your ability to rock and roll?

rl: I'm French, I'm an asshole and I got some good tastes. So I think that being from France has a positive affect on our ability to evolve in art and rock n roll. French culture brings
elegance to a lot of things, a lot, including music. Listen to Serge Gainsbourg and you'll know what I'm talking about. The only thing is that it's quite hard to sing some pure rock
songs in French language, this is basically a question of rhythm. English or Italian is better.

sc: Did you know that federal democracies rule (USA), and unitary democracies drool (France)?

rl: Certainly, certainly. But we try to look after us. If you don't mind, let me tell you something: European Union can take the best of both systems.

sc: If they made a movie about your life, would you prefer they did the end credits in order of appearance, or alphabetical?

rl: Alphabetical, but I'd like the names to be written in fluorescent, don't ask me why.

sc: Can you explain your band's name? What's with the (the)?

rl: We'd like to make the salesmen's life simpler. If you're in a shop and if you want to buy for example a The Meters album, where will you seek to find it? In the T line or in the M
line? You'll doubt and ask a salesman. With a The officially and directly and the end of the name, salesmen will be less tired at the end of the day and you'll win 10 minutes in your
life by easily finding what you sought. There are so many bands with a The at the beginning of their names. We had like them a The in our band's name, but at the end of it. This is
kind of a joke. But today, we're just Hi-Fi Klub.

sc: Who is your favorite writer?

rl: John Kennedy Toole. A fantastic book, "A Confederacy of Dunces", and goodbye.

sc: When you were little, and skinned your knee or fell off your bike, did you run home crying, or lay there crying and let someone else run to get your mom?

rl: Once by ground, I gave a kick in my bicycle and while making me badly
because of that, I ran to see my mother. You know, I skinned my knee because of that bike.

sc: Your singer was in a mental institution? Is he crazy? Did he kill anyone? Eat their bones?

rl: What I can say, is that he can not play anymore with us for some tragic reasons. This is no fun. But we got a great new partner. Welcome Spag and "vive Hi-Fi Klub".
